Edmonton Race Added To IndyCar Series Schedule
(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - A road race in Edmonton, Alberta, was officially added to the IndyCar Series schedule on Wednesday.
The race will be run on July 26th on a 14-turn circuit at the Edmonton City Centre Airport.
The contract between the Indy Racing League and Edmonton race organizers is for three years, running through 2010. It is the first race from the defunct Champ Car World Series schedule to officially be added to the 2008 IndyCar Series schedule, not including the Grand Prix of Long Beach.
A scheduling conflict with the IndyCar Series race in Japan forced the Long Beach race field to be run under Champ Car rules with the old Champ Car equipment in April.
The former Champ Car race at Surfers Paradise, Australia is also expected to be added at the end of this season's schedule. The IndyCar Series is at the Milwaukee Mile this weekend for Sunday's AJ Foyt Indy 225.
