500 Drivers: Rain, Rain Go Away
(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - For the second-straight day, the only vehicles travelling around the two and-a-half-mile oval at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway were emergency vehicles trying in vain to get the track dry.
Rain postponed another day of practice on Thursday, leaving teams just one more day to find speed before Saturday's opening day of time trials.
An all-day rain prompted IndyCar series officials to call it a day at around 1:45 eastern time. Today's forecast calls for partly cloudy skies, a chance of occasional showers and a very busy day at the speedway.
The top eleven spots on the grid will be up for grabs on pole day Saturday. Marco Andretti turned in the top speed on Tuesday, the only day of open practice so far, with a lap of 226.599 miles per hour.
Andretti admitted at the end of the day that he received a two from Graham Rahal's car on his hot lap, which may explain why it was more than a mile an hour faster than the second-quickest lap which was turned in by AGR teammate Tony Kanaan.
