Walsh Out, Bird Takes Over Pacers Operations
(NEW YORK, NY) - Former Pacers CEO Donnie Walsh was introduced as the New York Knicks’ President of Basketball Operations on Wednesday.
Walsh takes over for Isiah Thomas, who will remain as head coach for the time being.
Walsh spent 24 seasons with the Pacers, joining the franchise as an assistant coach in 1984. He announced last week that he would not return to the Pacers next season after his contract expired.
Pacers President Larry Bird issued a statement congratulating Walsh and wishing him luck in his new job. Bird became the Pacers' sole decision maker on basketball matters when Walsh left.
