Patrick Makes Historic Win At Indy Japan 300
(MOTEGI, JAPAN) - Danica Patrick passed Helio Castroneves with three laps remaining to win Sunday’s rain-delayed Indy Japan 300 at Twin Ring Motegi.
With the win, Patrick becomes the first woman to win a major automobile race on a closed-course. Patrick and her Andretti Green team went the final 51 laps without a pit stop, taking the lead from Castroneves while the other front-runners pitted for fuel.
The 26-year-old Roscoe, Illinois native picked up her first IndyCar series win in her 50th race. Target-Ganassi teammates Scott Dixon and Dan Wheldon finished third and fourth, respectively, followed by Patrick's Andretti Green teammate Tony Kanaan.
Next up for the IndyCar series is a 300-miler at Kansas Speedway this Sunday followed by the Indianapolis 500 on May 25th.
