Purdue's Martin Named Head Coach At Missouri State
(SPRINGFIELD, MO) - Purdue Associate Head Basketball Coach Cuonzo Martin has been named the head coach at Missouri State.
Martin replaces Barry Hinson whose contract was not renewed after nine seasons with the Bears. Martin played for the Boilermakers from 1992 through 1995 and was an assistant coach at Purdue from 2000 to 2007. He was promoted to associate head coach last November.
He takes over a program that finished 17-and-16 during the 2007-2008 season, finishing in a seventh-place tie in the Missouri Valley Conference.
The Bears will move into a new $67-million-dollar arena for the 2008-2009 season. Martin will begin his duties at Missouri State on April 1st.
Purdue released a statement from Head Coach Matt Painter saying that he is "thrilled for Cuonzo and his family". Painter does not have a timetable for filling Martin's position with the Boilermakers.
