Brayton Signs With Raiders, Decision Based On Playing Time
(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Free agent defensive end Tyler Brayton has chosen to sign with the Carolina Panthers rather than the Indianapolis Colts.
The former Oakland Raider agreed to a two-year deal with the Panthers on Tuesday.
Brayton's agent tells The Indianapolis Star that the final decision came down to playing time. Brayton would have served as a backup to starters Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis in Indianapolis.
The Colts are looking for some depth at defensive end after the pass rush bogged down when Freeney suffered a season-ending foot injury last year.
A pair of Colts are reportedly being courted by AFC South rival Tennessee. Starting guard Jake Scott met with Titans officials on Wednesday. The three-year veteran has started 60-consecutive games for the Colts.
The Tennessean of Nashville reports that defensive tackle Josh Thomas was also scheduled to be in Nashville on Wednesday to talk to Tennessee officials. Thomas joined the Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2004 and recorded 55 tackles and one sack in 2007.
