Champ Car Team Prepping To Jump To IRL
(INDIANAPOLIS) - One Champ Car team owner is ready to join the rival IRL.
Car owner Derrick Walker says he is preparing his team for the 2008 Indy Racing League season, not the Champ Car World Series which they have participated in in recent years.
Recent reports have centered on a potential merger or acquisition between the IRL and Champ Car, or Champ Car's possible bankruptcy, which could bring open wheel racing back into one series for the first time since the mid-1990's.
IRL executives recently visited Japan to talk to Honda about moving an Indy Car race there to accommodate a combined series, but have offered no public comments.
Meanwhile, a Champ Car executive says the series is still planning on running their 2008 season as scheduled.
