Pacers Survive Late Denver Push
(DENVER, CO) - The Indiana Pacers survived some lapses down the stretch to edge the Denver Nuggets 112-110.
The Pacers scored the first 15 points of the game but Denver crept back, cutting the margin to six at the end of the first quarter. The Nuggets took a one-point lead into the fourth quarter, but Indiana managed to get the lead back to nine points when Mike Dunleavy hit a three-pointer with one minute remaining.
The Pacers couldn't put the nuggets away from the free throw line as Jamaal Tinsley hit 2 of 4 and Shawne Williams hit 4 of 6 in the final minute. Meanwhile, the Nuggets were bombing away from three-point range with JR Smith draining a pair of threes and Allen Iverson adding another.
Denver had a chance to tie in the final seconds when Dunleavy was called for a touch foul when Smith attempted another three with two-point-seven seconds remaining. Smith hit the first two foul shots to make the score 111-110 Indiana but his third free throw rimmed out and Williams grabbed the rebound.
Williams was fouled with one second remaining and hit one of two free throws to make the final margin 112-110 Pacers.
Dunleavy led Indiana with a season-high 30 points with Williams adding 21 points and eleven rebounds as the Pacers win for the fourth time in their last six games and improve to 7-and-8 on the season.
Iverson led Denver with 26 points and Carmelo Anthony added 25 as the Nuggets suffer just their second home loss of the season.
