(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Dwight Freeney’s season is officially over. The Indianapolis Colts placed the three-time pro bowl defensive end on injured reserve Wednesday.

Freeney suffered a lisfranc injury - damage to the midfoot area - in Sunday night's loss at San Diego. The injury will require surgery and the Colts' medical staff expects Freeney to be completely recovered in time for the 2008 season.

The Colts confirmed Wednesday that they have claimed defensive end Simeon Rice off waivers from Denver.

Rice is a twelve-year veteran who is second among active players in career sacks with 121. He did participate in practice on Wednesday.
