Senderoff To Exit As IU Assistant Coach
(BLOOMINGTON, IN) - Indiana University is expected to announce the resignation of assistant men’s basketball coach Rob Senderoff today.
Multiple sources say that university lawyers began meeting with Senderoff last Friday before agreeing on a settlement on Monday. The resignation is being characterized as voluntary.
Senderoff is the key figure in a report IU sent to the NCAA committee on infractions detailing more than 100 impermissible phone calls made by members of the men's basketball program. Senderoff also reportedly participated in ten impermissible three-way calls with recruits and Head Coach Kelvin Sampson.
Indiana is still awaiting word from the infractions committee on further sanctions. The school has already cancelled a 500-thousand-dollar bonus Sampson was scheduled to receive this season while prohibiting Senderoff from leaving campus to recruit players and making phone calls to recruits through July of 2008. The program will also lose one scholarship for the 2008-2009 season.
Dan Dakich is reportedly a candidate to take Senderoff's position. Dakich is currently IU's director of basketball operations. He is a former Indiana player and assistant coach. He left Bloomington in 1997 to become the head coach at Bowling Green, a job he held for ten seasons.
