Colts Silence Jags On Monday Night

(JACKSONVILLE, FL) - The much anticipated battle for first place in the AFC South fizzled Monday night as the Indianapolis Colts dominated the Jacksonville Jaguars 29-7 in Jacksonville.

The Colts built a 17-0 lead at halftime and were never headed. The Jaguars lone score came early in the third quarter when Maurice Jones-Drew returned the opening kickoff 64 yards and scored on a one-yard run to make it 17-7.

The Colts would add a safety, a field goal and a touchdown pass from Peyton Manning to Dallas Clark to make the final score 29-7 as the Colts improve to 6-and-0.

Jacksonville ran for 375 yards in a December game against the Colts last season. They could only muster 117 on Monday as Indianapolis clamped down on Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew.

The Jags' offense was further hurt when quarterback David Garrard was sacked by Ed Johnson and suffered a sprained left ankle. Backup Quinn Gray completed just 9 of 24 passes for 56 yards with two interceptions.

Manning threw for 259 yards with a touchdown and an interception in his 150th consecutive start. Manning's touchdown pass puts him one behind hall-of-famer Johnny Unitas for the franchise record.

Reggie Wayne caught nine passes for 131 yards while Joseph Addai ran for 85 yards and Kenton Keith had 56 yards on the ground with a touchdown.

The Colts and the New England Patriots are the lone remaining unbeatens in the National Football League. The Colts' win over the Jaguars on Monday night moved the horseshoes to 6-and-0 for the third-consecutive year. The Patriots had little trouble with Miami on Sunday as they improved to 7-and-0 for the first time in franchise history.

Indianapolis is at Carolina next Sunday while New England plays host to Washington. The Colts and Patriots will then meet at the RCA Dome on November 4th.
