Tarik Glenn's D.R.E.A.M. Alive To Head Rec Renovation
(INDIANAPOLIS) - Former Indianapolis Colts offensive lineman Tarik Glenn will announce to more than 220 youth football players on Saturday that his foundation, D.R.E.A.M. Alive, has made the lead gift for a $3.4 million renovation of the recreation fields at Tabernacle Presbyterian Church at 34th St. and Washington Blvd.
The Tabernacle Recreation Program (Tab Rec), which began in 1924, serves more than 1,600 youth who live primarily in the Mapleton-Fall Creek neighborhood in Indianapolis. The youth, ages 5- 14, take part in Tab Rec football, basketball, soccer, track, cheerleading and chess leagues.
In addition to D.R.E.A.M. Alive, Republic Services, Inc. has committed funds and in-kind services for the project. The renovation will include such improvements as a synthetic field, lights, bleachers, a track and concession and restroom facilities. Additional funds are being sought to finish the project.
In its 83- year history, the Tab Rec program has benefited many youth who have gone on to play professional sports or become distinguished individuals, including Roosevelt Colvin, a linebacker for the New England Patriots, and Mark Clayton, a wide receiver who played most of his career with the Miami Dolphins and a five- time Pro Bowl player.
The event will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Tabernacle Presbyterian Church, 418 E. 34th St.
