(SOUTH BEND, IN) - Former Notre Dame quarterback Demetrius Jones has decided to transfer to Northern Illinois.

Jones, who started for the Fighting Irish in their season opener against Georgia Tech, did not show up Friday for the team's bus trip to Ann Arbor. Notre Dame lost to Michigan 38-0 on Saturday.

Jones says he's transferring because of Charlie Weis' comments regarding the starting quarterback job. Jones took exception to Weis' remark that freshman Jimmy Clausen was the team's top quarterback and that the only reason Clausen did not start the opener was because he was recovering from elbow surgery.
