Pacers Select New Head Coach
(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The Indiana Pacers have named Jim O’Brien as the 13th head coach in franchise history.
The 55-year-old O'Brien has a 182-and-158 record in five seasons as an NBA head coach.
He was named interim head coach of the Boston Celtics for the final 48 games of the 2000-2001 season when Rick Pitino left. He was given the job full time in April of 2001, leading the Celtics to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2002 and a playoff appearance in 2003.
He resigned as coach of the Celtics in January of 2004 and spent the next season as head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers.
O'Brien has spent the past two seasons as a columnist for ESPN.com.
