Colts Lose Super Bowl Bid To Dallas
(NASHVILLE, TN) - The Dallas Cowboys’ new stadium in Arlington, Texas will host the Super Bowl in February of 2011.
Arlington was chosen over Indianapolis and Glendale, Arizona at Tuesday's NFL owners meetings in Nashville, Tennessee.
Fred glass, who headed up the Indianapolis effort to land the Super Bowl, said he felt that more seats in the Cowboys' stadium was the deciding factor. The new Dallas-area stadium will open in 2009 with more than 100,000 seats.
Lucas Oil Stadium in Downtown Indianapolis opens next year with the ability to expand to more than 72,000 seats to accommodate the Super Bowl.
Colts owner Jim Irsay hopes that the city will try to land the Super Bowl again in the future.
Indianapolis mayor Bart Peterson says it is too soon to consider whether to put in a bid for the 2012 Super Bowl next year and that he wants to evaluate what happened this time before deciding whether to try again.
