Pacers Back In The Playoff Race
(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Jamaal Tinsley’s layup with just over one second remaining gave the Indiana Pacers a 100-99 win over the San Antonio spurs to halt a four-game losing streak.
Manu Ginobili made one of two free throws with six seconds remaining to give the Spurs a one-point lead. Tinsley drove to the right side of the lane and got around San Antonio's Tim Duncan to put the ball in with one and one-tenth seconds remaining. Duncan's attempt at a game-winning hook shot at the buzzer bounced off the backboard.
Mike Dunleavy led Indiana with 21 points with Tinsley and Troy Murphy finishing with 20 points apiece as the Pacers won for just the third time in their last 19 games. Ike Diogu added a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds off the bench to help offset the absence of leading-scorer Jermaine O'Neal. O'Neal has missed five of the Pacers' last 13 games with injuries to his left knee and ankle.
Tony parker led San Antonio with 22 points and Duncan added 17 points and eleven rebounds as the spurs see a six-game win streak come to an end. With the win, the Pacers pull to within a game and-a-half of the Orlando Magic for the eighth and final Eastern Conference playoff berth.
They face the top team in the East, the Detroit Pistons, Tuesday night at Conseco Fieldhouse.
