Colts Visit The White House
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - The Indianapolis Colts are back home after spending Monday in Washington, D.C.
The Colts started their trip by visiting wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. They were then honored by President Bush in a ceremony at the White House. The President addressed the team during the 20-minute ceremony on the South Lawn of the White House.
Super Bowl MVP Peyton Manning was singled out for some good-natured ribbing by Bush. The President noted the all-pro quarterback's penchant for commercials, remarking that he wanted "to see a guy who gets more air time than I do".
Afterwards, team owner Jim Irsay presented the president with a Stetson hat with the Colts' horseshoe logo on the front. Head Coach Tony Dungy then presented President Bush with a Colts jersey. After the ceremony, Irsay, Dungy, Team President Bill Polian and team captains Manning, Dwight Freeney, Gary Brackett, Jeff Saturday and Adam Vinatieri were given a tour of the oval office by the President.
Several players are spending the week in Indianapolis participating in the team's voluntary offseason workout program. Team management is getting ready for this weekend's NFL draft.
