Pacers Hire Kelly Krauskopf As NBA's First Woman Assistant GM

Last updated on Tuesday, December 18, 2018

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The Indiana Pacers made history on Monday as they announced the hiring of longtime WNBA executive Kelly Krauskopf as the first female assistant general manager in NBA history.

Krauskopf was president of the Indiana Fever for 17 years before relinquishing her duties in 2017 to help the Pacers with their NBA2K eSports league.

"Kelly is a true pioneer in our sport," Pacers owner Herb Simon said in a statement. "I've worked with Kelly the past two decades, so I know her tremendous basketball mind, strong work ethic and proven leadership skills will continue to be of great benefit to our organization."

Krauskopf said in a statement that she's excited for her next venture.

"My past experience has shown me that building winning teams and elite level culture is not based on gender -- it is based on people and processes. I am excited to join the Pacers as we continue building the best NBA franchise in the business."

In other news, the Pacers put their seven-game winning streak on the line tonight when they host the Cleveland Cavaliers. The last time the two teams played back in October the Pacers rolled to a win and shot the fifth-best field goal percentage in franchise history (64.9 percent).

The Pacers and Cavaliers tip-off at 7pm EST.

Meanwhile, the NBA announced Pacers forward Thaddeus Young had been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for Week 9. Young has been a big factor in Indiana's win streak as he averaged 18.8 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1,8 steals in their four wins last week.

It's the second time he has won the award and the first time as a member of the Pacers (January 2014, Philadelphia 76ers).
