(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The Cincinnati Bengals ripped off a 17-point fourth quarter to rally past the Indianapolis Colts 34-23 in Sunday’s season-opener.
The Bengals got a go-ahead touchdown by Joe Mixon in the early part of the fourth quarter to put them up 24-23 before Randy Bullock would push the lead to four points with a 39-yard field goal. Still, Andrew Luck and the Colts were only one touchdown away from taking the lead.
As the Colts offense marched down the field with time ticking away Luck found connected with Jack Doyle deep in Bengals' territory but Doyle had the ball ripped from his hands and Bengals' backup safety Clayton Fejedelem scooped up the fumble and sprinted 83-yards for a touchdown to put the game on ice with less than 35 seconds remaining.
Luck was solid in his first regular-season game since 2016 as he threw 319 yards, two touchdowns and one interception and completed 39-of-53 passes.
"I wish we would have won," Luck said after the game. "I think I was a little careless with the ball when we had a chance to put more points on the board."
Luck shook off a vicious helmet-to-helmet hit by Bengals' starting safety Shawn Williams, which saw Williams get ejected.
Next the Colts will start a two-game road trip in the nation's capital against the Washington Redskins.
