(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Colts quarterback Andrew Luck admitted on Monday that his decision to play with a partially torn labrum is the reason it is taking him so long to return to the field.
Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star reports that Luck's attempt to compensate for his shoulder pain led to his mechanics getting thrown off and eventually led to him having more pain when he first started throwing again last fall.
"I don't want to play shoulda, woulda, coulda but I've learned from the point of injury on that if it ever happened again, maybe this is how I would handle it," Luck said. "I wouldn't say I'm changing my throwing motion but there are many things in my throwing motion that I can do better. I'm making sure that I am using my body as efficiently as possible to throw the football and not over-or under-compensate in any way."
Luck also admitted he has still yet to throw a regulation-sized football and is following every step of the process as that his trainers have laid out.
"I need to stay this course," he said. Luck added that he hopes to be full-go once the Colts open training camp.
