BNL Lady Stars Take Championship In IHSAA Girls Swimming Sectional

(JASPER) - Bedford North Lawrence ended a 40-year title drought in record-setting style as the Stars to the team championship in the IHSAA girls swimming sectional on Saturday afternoon.

BNL won three events to automatically qualify those winners for the state finals on Feb. 9-10 in Indianapolis, and the Stars also broke four school records.

Hayley Hatfield won the 100-yard breaststoke in 1:09.39, breaking Kayla Allen's record in 2009. Hatfield also broke her own school record in the 200 individual medley (2:16.99) while finishing second.

BNL freshman Ursula Patton smashed the 110-year school record of Justine Jones in the 500 freestyle. Patton also won that race by 27 seconds.

Sidney Carlile broke the school record of Rosanna Van der Kleij in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.48.
