Jim Irsay: Colts Won't Rush Andrew Luck Back From Surgery

Last updated on Tuesday, March 28, 2017

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Colts owner Jim Irsay sat down with the team’s website while taking a break from NFL league meetings and talked about the a multitude of topics.

One of the topics discussed included how he and new General Manager Chris Ballard will evaluate Chuck Pagano's performance this season.

"It will not be based on how many wins, I can tell you that. It will be more of an overview of how we have developed players and put the best players on the field and how he has progressed from Year One to now."

As for Andrew Luck coming off of off-season shoulder surgery, Irsay said the organization will be 'cautious' and they will not rush him back until he is physically cleared by doctors. With the 15th overall pick in the NFL Draft he said the Colts could do something that would be out of the ordinary for them.

"We could trade down and accrue more picks, which I think would help us fill some holes. Obviously, defensively is where we want to focus, specifically with speed and pass rush. The draft dictates to you and not vice-versa but I can say that that is an area we will focus in on."
