Shakamak Boys Basketball Coach And Athletic Director Expected To Coach Edgewood Mustangs

Last updated on Thursday, July 7, 2016

(JASONVILLE) - The Metropolitan School District of Shakamak is preparing to fill a vacancy within the school and athletic program.

Boys basketball coach J.B. Neill, who also serves as the Shakamak Athletic Director, is expected to be hired at Edgewood as the Mustangs varsity boys basketball coach.

The position at Edgewood became vacant when former coach Dave Mahurin resigned last month. Mahurin was arrested on May 8 for allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated with endangerment and possession of marijuana. He also served as the assistant principal at Edgewood.

It is uncertain whether Neill would be filling both positions at Edgewood.

Edgewood is not expected to make the hiring of Neill official until its next regularly scheduled school board meeting on July 18.

The Shakamak Superintendent mentioned it has yet to be decided if the vacancies Neill leaves behind will be filled by one person or multiple. Neill's official letter of resignation will be accepted at the next regularly scheduled board meeting on July 14.
