Muncie Fieldhouse In Need Of Repairs; Future Uncertain

Last updated on Thursday, July 14, 2016

(MUNCIE, IN) - One of Indiana’s many memorable high school gymnasiums is in need of desperate repair.

The Muncie Fieldhouse will need $265,000 in repairs to make the building structurally safe after problems with supports on the buildings east side were discovered.

Muncie Community Schools Superintendent Steven Baule has admitted that basketball might not be played this winter at the fieldhouse. The gymnasium was constructed in 1928 and renovated in 1983.

The structural issues have created lowered floors on some of the gymnasiums bleachers, as well as cracks and drops in the floor near the affected columns.
