Former Colt Dies In Accidental Shooting

Last updated on Wednesday, June 29, 2016

(DETROIT, MI) - Former Colts running back Zurlon Tipton died from an accidental gunshot on Tuesday.

The 26-year old accidentally shot himself after retrieving a bag in his car that had two handguns, when one discharged and hit him in the stomach.

Tipton signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent after the 2014 draft. He played in six games during that season and appeared in three postseason games. In 2015, he played mostly special teams and appeared in 10 games.

Colts' players and staff reacted to the news with tweets and messages calling Tipton a "great teammate and human being" and a "heartbreaking loss".

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
