(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The Pacers’ head coaching search could be coming to a close before anyone even knew it was underway as reports over the weekend say the team is working on a deal to promote assistant head coach Nate McMillan to the position.
Larry Bird said last week at the NBA draft combine that the team hadn't begun their head coaching search but it appears that was because the hire would be in-house.
The 51-year old McMillan has been an assistant coach with Indiana since 2013 and was the head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers from 2005 to 2012 and Seattle SuperSonics from 2000 to 2005. He and Pacers GM Kevin Pritchard worked together in Portland from 2007 to 2010.
No official announcement has been made as the contractual details get hammered out.
