Jim Irsay Would Like Andrew Luck Extension Done By July 4

Last updated on Wednesday, March 23, 2016

(BOCA RATON, FL) - The Colts are well represented at the annual NFL owners’ meetings in Florida with Jim Irsay, Ryan Grigson and Chuck Pagano all in attendance.

The Colts owner said he is hopeful that a long-term extension with Andrew Luck will get done by mid-summer.

"He's completely healthy, I don't have any health concerns. I think it is something we'd like to get done by the Fourth of July. We also know that we have to be able to field a team around him so we have to be very thoughtful with how we structure that contract, not just the numbers but how we structure it."

Meanwhile, Ryan Grigson said because of the upcoming Luck contract the team may be a little less active in free agency than in years past.

"We have to be disciplined to this approach, there's no way around that. We're not in a position where we can say 'we have a need at this spot, okay we'll spend $5 million to fill this spot and that spot', we can't do that. I think ultimately it's what's best for the overall vitality of the organization and the team."
