Texas A&M Suing Indianapolis Colts For Trademark Infringment

Last updated on Friday, November 13, 2015

(College Station, TX) - Texas A&M has sued the Colts for infringing on its “12th Man” trademark.

The university filed suit on Thursday after repeated attempts to stop the team from using its registered trademark.

Since 2006, A&M claims they made repeated attempts to stop the Colts from using the saying with no avail. The school says it first contacted the Colts in 2006 and sent a cease and desist order.

The Colts retired the 12th Man in their ring of honor in 2008 and A&M says they filed when they were made aware of the team using the 12th Man for ticket sales.

The Seattle Seahawks also use the 12th Man saying but pay the university annually to license the phrase.
