Tony Stewart To Retire After 2016

Last updated on Thursday, October 1, 2015

(UNDATED) - Tony Stewart made it official on Wednesday as he announced he would retire from the Sprint Cup Series after 2016.

On the decision, he said "The choice was 100 percent mine. It's a scenario where everyone in their career decides that it's time for a chance and it's nothing that you plan, it just happens. I think deep down you know when it's time to make a change like this."

Stewart said he isn't retiring from racing completely and said he would be open to racing in other series like sprint car or sports cars but hasn't made a decision as of yet.

Clint Bowyer will take over the No. 14 Chevy in 2017.
