Report: NFL, Roger Goodell Helped Cover Up Spygate

Last updated on Wednesday, September 9, 2015

(Bristol. CN) - A bombshell report from ESPN says NFL commissioner Roger Goodell helped cover up the Patriots Spy-gate scandal because it was worse than what was reported.

According to the report and citing nearly 90 sources in and around the league, Bill Belichick and the Patriots videotaped opposing team's signals from 40 different games between 2000 and 2007.

The report also says Belichick had a complex spying team that would steal opponents' play sheets, pose as employees of the opponents to record practices and search opposing teams hotel rooms for playbooks and scouting reports.

The report says many owners around the NFL believe Goodell came down hard on the Patriots organization and Tom Brady in the Deflate-gate controversy as a sort of "make up call" for covering up the extent of the Spy-gate scandal.

The Patriots released a statement denying the accuracy of the report and Roger Goodell said he has not read the report but denies any connection between the two punishments.
