Colts Sign Josh Thomas, Release Vick Ballard From IR

Last updated on Wednesday, September 23, 2015

(Indianapolis, IN) - With cornerback Vontae Davis suffering a concussion on Monday night and his status for Sunday up in the air the Colts added some insurance to their secondary as they signed free agent corner Josh Thomas.

Thomas spent the first three years of his career with the Carolina Panthers before jumping to three different teams during last season.

The team waived Eric Patterson and also announced the release of running back Vick Ballard from injured reserve with an injury settlement.

As the Colts regroup from their loss to the Jets, Chuck Pagano backtracked on comments he made post-game that some took as criticism of Andrew Luck.

"It's really complementing our quarterback is what I was doing there. He's been doing phenomenal things for us over the last three years. He makes huge plays. We've put a lot on his plate, and he handles it extremely well. We've got one hell of a quarterback."
