IHSAA Announces Penalties For Football Game Fight

Last updated on Wednesday, August 26, 2015

(Indianapolis, IN) - Following an incident of unsportsmanlike behavior during last Friday’s game between South Bend Washington High School and Michigan City High School, the IHSAA has placed both teams on probation for the remainder of the 2015 season, suspended six players and a South Bend Washington assistant coach.

Each of the suspended players is required to complete a Sportsmanship course by September 4th.

South Bend Washington assistant coach Keith Witherspoon is on an indefinite suspension and is being advised to take a similar online course about Teaching and Role Model Behavior.

Last weeks game is being counted as a double forefeit.

A release from IHSAA Commissioner Bobby Cox says the sportsmanship is still the organizations primary focus and says he is proud of the efforts both schools made immediately after the incident to address the problem and prevent it from happening again.
