Colts GM Ryan Grigson Explains Theory Behind 9-Point Play

Last updated on Wednesday, March 25, 2015

(UNDATED) - Colts GM Ryan Grigson introduced a proposal to the NFL that would create a possible “9-point play”.

The idea is that if a team scores a touchdown and coverts a two-point conversion, they would have a chance to add another "bonus point" via a 50 yard field goal.

Grigson said, "it's a way to encourage dialogue to make sure that the extra point isn't just some ceremonial play. Even if you want to move the extra point back, if you don't do significantly enough, you don't affect the dynamic of the play."

The NFL is meeting this week to discuss several rule changes and the Colts proposal is one that is on the docket.
