NFL Combine Underway

Last updated on Thursday, February 19, 2015

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The NFL Combine is underway at Lucas Oil Stadium and teams are using many ways to determine who they want to draft.

40 yard dash times, vertical leap, and weightlifting are a few areas where the draft hopefuls will be judged, but they also will undergo psychological testing.

Sports Psychologist at St. Vincent Sports Performance Dr. Chris Carr says there is more to the psychological testing than the Wonderlic test, including personality and intelligence assessments. Dr. Carr says the interviews during the combine are an opportunity to determine how the athlete articulates his goals and how he addresses issues related to past behavioral concerns.

Carr says the best way for teams to find out what they want is for them to ask direct questions of the athletes, not to try to trick them with certain questions. Carr says he would ask them to explain any past incidents, explain the related factors and to discuss what they learned from the incident and how to implement any changes.
