Kahne Wins Spot Into Chase At Atlanta

Last updated on Tuesday, September 2, 2014

(Hampton, GA) - Kasey Kahne fought his way into the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship with a bold move on a second green-white-checker shootout to take the Oral-B USA 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Kahne passed Matt Kenseth on the second restart and held on to punch his ticket into NASCAR's post-season with his first win of the year. Kenseth held on for second, and due to his place in the points also clinched a spot.

Columbus native Tony Stewart made his return to the track for the first time since he hit and killed a fellow driver during a sprint car race in New York on August 9th. Stewart hit the wall after blowing a tire and finished 41st.

Jeff Gordon also hit the wall after losing a tire, and ended up 17th. Ryan Newman came home 7th.

Kevin Harvick dominated the race, leading 195 laps, but was involved in a crash on the first green-white-checker attempt and ended up 19th.
