Super Weekend At The Brickyard Nears

Last updated on Tuesday, July 22, 2014

(Speedway) - It’s Super Weekend At The Brickyard, topped off by the Crown Royal 400 on Sunday.

Jeff Gordon comes in with the NASCAR Sprint Cup points lead, on the strength of 13 top 10 finishes in the first 19 races this season.

Of course Gordon wasn't born in Indiana, but he did live in Pittsboro, and went to Tri-West High School as he began starring on tracks all across the Midwest. That makes the Brickyard one of his home races, and the 4-time NASCAR champion says he appreciates all the support he gets from the fans at IMS.

"It's amazing how the Indiana fans have treated me over the years" Gordon said. "When I go to Indianapolis, I get obviously a bigger round of applause or whatever the area are cheering or clapping. It's louder there than it is anywhere else that we go, and that speaks volumes about my connection with Indiana and the way the fans treat me there. It's unlike any other place that I go, and I love it".

The official entry list for the 400 released Monday has 46 drivers vying for the 43 spots. It includes 3 Hoosier-born drivers, Ryan Newman, Tony Stewart and David Stremme.

Also entered, 2000 Indianapolis 500 winner and current IndyCar driver Juan Pablo Montoya, and NASCAR Truck Series champion Matt Crafton looking to make his Sprint Cup Series debut.
