Montoya Claims IndyCar Victory At Pocono

Last updated on Monday, July 7, 2014

(Pocono, PA) - Juan Pablo Montoya completed his comeback by winning his first Indy car victory in nearly 14 years taking the Pocono INDYCAR 500 Sunday at Pocono Raceway.

Montoya won in an IndyCar for the first time since September 2000 at Gateway International Raceway.

The race was the third fastest overall race, and fastest 500-mile Indy car race in history as Montoya's average speed of 202.402 mph broke the previous record held by Jimmy Vasser by over 4 miles per hour.

Montoya is the first driver to win a race from a pole position in 2014.

Montoya's teammate Helio Castroneves finished second, with rookie Carlos Munoz third.

Castroneves is now tied atop the point standings with teammate Will Power, after Power incurred another drive-through penalty, this time for blocking Castroneves.
