Jeff Gordon Claims Fifth Brickyard Victory

Last updated on Monday, July 28, 2014

(Speedway) - Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard declared Sunday “Jeff Gordon Day” in his city, the future NASCAR Hall of Famer did his part just down the road in Speedway winning his fifth Brickyard 400 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Gordon took the win after making a daring late-race pass on teammate Kasey Kahne on a restart following a late-race caution flag.

Gordon led 40 laps in taking his 90th career win in NASCAR's top series, just the 3rd driver in history to reach that plateau.

Gordon won eight days before his 43rd birthday and on the weekend that the Brickyard celebrated the 20th anniversary of his first victory in the "400".

Kyle Busch finished second, with his Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Denny Hamlin and Matt Kenseth crossing the line third and fourth.
