Indy Moto GP Race Under Negotiation

Last updated on Monday, June 2, 2014

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The August 10 Moto GP motorcycle race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the last one scheduled there under the current contract. But the two sides are in talks about a possible extension.

IMS president Doug Boles says both the Speedway and Dorna Sports, the Spanish firm which oversees Moto GP, want to continue the Indianapolis race. He says the Speedway made changes this spring to its road course to address concerns of the series' riders, smoothing out corners and creating a single, consistent asphalt surface that the motorcycle tires can grip better. He says Dorna representatives have visited the track and are pleased with the changes.

Boles says talks should pick up again in the next few weeks after going on the back burner in May while IMS got ready for the first-ever Grand Prix of Indianapolis IndyCar race, followed by the 500.

Moto GP dropped its race in Monterey, California this season after nine years. Boles says that increases optimism that Indy will continue as one of two American races on the circuit, along with the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. But the two sides still have to agree on details.
