Last updated on Tuesday, June 17, 2014

(San Diego) - The sports world is mourning one of the greatest hitters in baseball history.

Tony Gwynn, who spent his entire 20-year career with the San Diego Padres, on the way to 3,141 hits and 8 batting titles died Monday of cancer at the age of 54.

Gwynn batted .300 or better in 19 straight seasons, second only to Ty Cobb's record 23.

Gwynn had ties to the Hoosier State, as he spent time in a house he owned in Fishers for more than a decade.
