(Sonoma, CA) - Carl Edwards grabbed his first career road course win, taking the Toyota/Save Mart 350 by holding off road-course ace Jeff Gordon.
Edwards had never finished higher than third at the California road course until Sunday's win, which locks him in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship field.
Gordon closed the gap dramatically but ran out of time to catch Edwards, the veteran driver still leads the point standings.
Ryan Newman finished 11th, Tony Stewart rebounded after a pit-road speeding penalty to end up 19th.
