Indianapolis Submits Super Bowl Bid

Last updated on Thursday, May 8, 2014

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indy’s bid for the 2018 Super Bowl is in.

Host Committee Chair Allison Melangton says NFL team owners received their 900-page bid binders on Wednesday.

Melangton says Colts Owner Jim Irsay will be part of the presentation team when Indy officially presents its bid in Atlanta May 20th. Irsay is set to address ownership for five minutes. The NFL Network will carry the voting live.

Indianapolis is up against Minneapolis and New Orleans. Melangton says in her mind, there's no clear frontrunner.

Each city has 15 minutes to make its presentation.

Melangton says a so-called "Super Bowl Boulevard" is now required in the bid package along with a social media village.

The city will include another "legacy" portion as part of Indy's presentation. Melangton adds that the city's $30 million, corporately-funded host committee should boost their chances the way she says it did in helping the city secure the Super Bowl in 2012.

The 2012 Super Bowl generated an economic impact of $372 million and a $176 million in direct spending.
