(UNDATED) - The following is a wrapup of regional baseball matchups from Thursday.
(Pittsburgh, PA) - The Cincinnati Reds, relied heavily on the arm of youngster pitcher Tony Cingrani who for the third time this year delivered with a victory, this time over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
His streak of 23 games in a row to start his career without giving up more than 5 hits was broken, but he settled for the win, to improve to 3-2 on the season.
After giving up 1 run in a tough 32 pitch first inning, Cingrani got on his groove, allowing just 6 hits overall, and only 1 run, alongside 2 walks and 7 strikeouts through 6 innings of solid work.
Offensively the Reds got their only runs of the game in the top of the 6th, coming after Joey Votto and Todd Frazier reached base on hit by pitches. Ryan Ludwick came through with 2 outs with a double, scoring both runners, and giving the Reds just enough offense to win the game 2-1.
The Reds have won 3 out of 4 against the Pirates, and now have won 7 of their last 9, to improve to 11-11 on the season.
(Chicago, IL) - It was the Diamondbacks Mike Bolsinger who stole the day at Wrigley field.
The pitcher starting for just the second time in his career did well, initially giving up one run in the first after an error and a few walks, but then settling right in, giving up just 3 more hits on the day for a total of 4 in the game. He only allowed that one run and he also struck out 7 batters while going 6 and 2/3rds innings.
On offense, the pitcher also came through, giving himself some cushion as he hit an RBI single in the 2nd to put the D-backs up by a score of 3-2.
For the Cubs, they split the series with the D-backs, sinking to 7 and 14 on the season. Anthony Rizzo hit his 3rd homer of the season in the 8th, but it was not enough for the Cubs rally.
Edwin Jackson, former Diamond back pitcher, was pretty solid through 7 innings, giving up 5 hits and 3 runs, but the offense just wasn't strong enough to back him up.
(New York City, NY) - The New York Mets, have won 7 of their last 10 including 3 out of 4 against the Cardinals.
Solid pitching was key, as veteran Bartola Colon went 7 innings, allowing just four hits, and only one run, while striking out 8. The Bullpen finished the game allowing zero hits in relief, which included 1 inning of work from Daisuke Matsuzaka for his first career save.
Going into the game, the Cardinals had undefeated Lance Lynn on the mound, who's was 4-0 on the season. He went 6 innings, giving up just four hits, but also three runs. However the Cards could not support him offensively, losing 4-1 and falling to 12 and 11 on the season.
(Detroit, MI) - The Tigers offense exploded for 13 hits off the Chicago pitchers, the Tigers tallied seven runs, including Rajai Davis' solo home-run, in support of the American leagues reigning CY young winner, Max Scherzer.
Scherzer allowed seven hits but only two runs, as he pitched 6 innings, he also struck out 10 White sox batters.
For the White sox, they split the 4 game series 2 to 2, but drop to 4th in the AL central division, with their 11 and 12 record. They are 4 and 6 over their last 10 games.
Offensively the White Sox had some bright spots, as Adam Dunn hit his 5th home-run of the season, and the team collected 11 hits, but just couldn't produce runs, as they batted just 2 for 9 with runners in scoring position.
