Cardinals Force Decisive Game Five In NLDS

Last updated on Tuesday, October 8, 2013

(Pittsburgh, PA) - The St. Louis Cardinals got another outstanding effort from rookie Michael Wacha in a 2-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates that forced a deciding game five of their National League Division Series.

Wacha took a no-hitter into the 8th inning, before Pedro Alvarez broke it up with a solo home run with one out.

Wacha allowed only one hit and a single walk in 7 1/3 innings. Trevor Rosenthal got the save for the Cardinals.

Matt Holliday hit a two-run homer off Pirates starter Charlie Morton for the only runs Wacha would need.

The two teams combined for just four hits.

The deciding game five is Wednesday in St. Louis.
