(Charlotte, NC) - NASCAR held a press conference on Monday night in Charlotte, North Carolina that drastically changed the shape of the 2013 Sprint for the Cup.

After a controversial finish to the race in Richmond on Saturday night, many accused Michael Waltrip Racing of cheating.

With 6 laps to go on Saturday, Ryan Newman was well on his way to the checkered flag and a spot in the Chase.

That changed when Michael Waltrip Racing's Clint Bowyer spun his car out, making no contact with the wall or any other car.

In a bizarre twist, and after pit stops, Bowyer's teammate Martin Truex Jr. benefited from the caution and would finish the race high enough to make the chase, while Newman would narrowly miss.

On Monday night, Nascar docked Martin Truex's team 50 points, falling him to 14th in the points and moving Ryan Newman to the 12th and final spot on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Chase for the Cup which gets under way on Sunday at Chicagoland.
