(Pittsburgh, PA) - In the National League, the Pittsburgh Pirates trimmed the Cardinals lead in the N-L Central with a 9-2 win over St. Louis at PNC Park last night.

The Pirates handed the Cardinals their fourth straight loss, the longest losing streak for St. Louis this season, in pulling within a half game for the lead in the division.

Pedro Alvarez capped a raucous opening frame for Pittsburgh with an NL best 27th home run, a three-run shot that gave the Pirates a 4-0 lead.

The Cardinals are 62-41 and play at Pittsburgh this afternoon at 4:05.
