Tigers' Alvarez Wins Debut Against Indians

Last updated on Monday, June 10, 2013

(Detroit, MI) - In the American League Sunday, the Detroit Tigers completed a three-game sweep of the Cleveland Indians with a 4-to-1 win at Comerica Park.

24-year old Jose Alvarez won his major league debut by limiting the Indians to one-run over six-innings pitched. Alvarez was called up to start in place of Anibal Sanchez, who was scratched from the rotation because of stiffness in his throwing shoulder.

Cleveland is on a seven-game losing streak and trail Detroit by five and-a-half games for first place in the AL Central.

The Indians are 30-and-32 and open a series tonight against the Texas Rangers. First pitch from Rangers' Ballpark in Arlington is at 8:05.
