NASCAR Driver Leffler Killed In Sprint Car Crash

(Swedesboro, NJ) - Jason Leffler, former NASCAR and open wheel competitor at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, died Wednesday night following a crash in a sprint car race at Bridgeport Raceway in New Jersey.

Leffler's car rolled several times on the front stretch of the dirt oval and came to a rest after striking the wall.

He was airlifted to an Eastern Pennsylvania hospital and pronounced dead shortly after 9pm.

Leffler, 37 years old, drove in the Indianapolis 500 in 2000 and competed in the Brickyard 400 five times, the last race in 2008.

He is survived by a five-year old son, Charlie.
