Alvarez Leads Pirates Past Reds

(Cincinnati, OH) - In the National League Thursday, Pedro Alvarez had a home run and a bases loaded double during the Pittsburgh Pirates’ 5-3 win over the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ballpark.

The Pirates earned a four-game split in the week long series with the Reds and trail Cincinnati by a half game for second place in the division.

Joey Votto had two-hits and an RBI single and Jay Bruce homered in the fourth inning for Cincinnati.

The Reds are 44-30 and begin an eight-game road trip out West, starting with the Arizona Diamondbacks tonight at 9:40.
