(San Diego, CA) - In the National League Wednesday, Tyler Lyons won his major league debut and the St. Louis Cardinals held off a late charge by the San Diego Padres, winning 5-3 at Petco Park in San Diego.
Lyons was promoted from triple-A Memphis in relief of Jamie Garcia, who will undergo season ending shoulder surgery this week.
The 25-year-old southpaw pitched seven-innings in limiting the Padres to one-run on four-hits.
